Artificial General Intelligence, or AGI, is an advanced version of AI. It is believed that AGI can increase human intelligence by multiple folds. The rise of AI systems such as Gemini and ChatGPT is playing a pivotal role in the development of technology across various industries.
However, AGi does not have any fixed definition as of now. On the broader spectrum, AGI, or artificial general intelligence, is the stage of AI that can perform most human activities or tasks with better efficiency. Though AGI, ChatGPT, Gemini, and BARD are all still evolving, nothing can be said about the future with 100% certainty.
The technology leaders and tech giants are on different boats regarding the existence and development of AG intelligence. They have different opinions about whether it will benefit or harm mankind. Let’s read what they have to say.
Famous entrepreneur Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX and Tesla and owner of X, said that AI will be far smarter and more intelligent than humans in the upcoming years. Furthermore, Elon is very clear about AI’s role in mankind. In addition, he talks about being cautious about AI. He also added that AI will surpass all human intelligence by 2029. The topic of AI surpassing human intelligence was talked about on the Joe Rogan podcast.
Yann LeCun, Meta’s Chief AI Scientist, interacted with Time magazine this year and said that LLM-powered chatbots are not on the path of AGI. He added that LLm works great if trained to scale, but it has some limitations. The current system lacks practical world experience and produces imaginary content most of the time. These AI systems will need gigantic amounts of data to reach that level of expertise and intelligence that might be dangerous for humankind. Yann LeCun said, “I hate the term AGI.” They are useful, but they are on the path of replacing and surpassing human intelligence.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai, in an interaction with the “New York Times,” rejected the talk about AGI and said the current system is going to be very capable of doing tasks. He added, What is AGI? When will AGI come? Sundar Pichai said that he doesn’t care whether we will reach AGI or not, but the current artificial intelligence system itself will become very capable and useful in the future but can also cause some harm. Tell us whether you think AGI will harm the human race or will benefit.
OpenAI founder and CEO Sam Altman is the front player who raises the voice in favor of AGI. He believes AGI can be achieved and will be a turning moment in the history of mankind. Sam Altman spoke in an interaction with Time Magazine last year, saying, ”AGI will be the most powerful technology humanity will have.” He also added that the cost of intelligence will decrease, but the quality of intelligence will increase gradually with time. On the other hand, he said what people will do with these intelligent systems is a completely different thing. The future will be a sci-fi movie. What do you people think? Meta, with Nvidia, is planning to use 350,000 Nvidia AI chips towards the generation of AGI. Meta is planning to use their prominent AI research groups, GenAI and FAIR, to accelerate AGI development.
Facebook and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that AI will be updated, and they are planning to bring the Super Smart AI to market soon. We all know that Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is into AI, and his goal is to bring something big and new to artificial intelligence. Super-smart artificial intelligence, or AGI, can match or even exceed the intelligence level of humans. This super-smart AI can be termed AGI for now.
As per CNN, Mark Zuckerberg believes that to create the most efficient AI things, like customized chatbots for business, we need to push our limits and AI technology to a great extent. He added that the next generation of services will have smart AGI as a base. The company’s goal is to build and develop an AGI that is useful and accessible to the masses. Mark also announced an increase in the number of AI researchers to develop new artificial intelligence tools.
The report also emphasizes the use of 350,000 Nvidia AI chips by Meta by year-end. Zuckerberg sees a connection between the virtual world of the metaverse and AI. Marks also firmly believes that by the end of the decade, people will use smart glasses. Hence, they have a collaboration with giants like Ray Ban that will be powered by AI. These glasses will help users read, write, send text messages, and watch videos without using their hands.
Other tech giants like Microsoft, Amazon, and Google are also developing new AI tools and ideas to help businesses and humans to various extents. Some people are also concerned with the harm that can be caused by these AI tools in the future, but it is uncertain.
