A remarkable feat was achieved by the 20-year-old Indian cricketer Shafali Varma, who managed to score a double century in a mere 194 balls. This impressive performance surpassed Annabel Sutherland’s previous record of achieving a double century in 248 balls against the same team earlier this year.

Shafali’s incredible achievement puts her in the company of an elite group of Indian women who have scored double centuries in Test cricket. The only other player to accomplish this feat is the legendary Mithali Raj, who scored an impressive 214 runs off 407 balls in a Test match against England at Taunton two decades ago.

Shafali’s remarkable display of aggressive batting included an impressive tally of 23 fours and eight towering sixes. In a stunning display of power and skill, she achieved a remarkable feat by reaching the coveted 200-run milestone. With sheer determination, she effortlessly launched consecutive sixes off the bowling of off-spinner Delmi Tucker, leaving spectators in awe. And just like that, with a single run, she etched her name into the annals of history, solidifying her place in the record books.

In a stunning turn of events, the talented young opener’s remarkable innings was abruptly halted as she fell victim to a run out at an impressive score of 205 off just 197 balls. This unfortunate incident occurred due to a miscommunication with her partner, Jemimah Rodrigues.

Shafali came close to achieving the highest individual score by an Indian in women’s Test innings, falling just 38 runs shy of breaking the world record. Pakistan’s Kiran Baluch maintains her position as the record holder for the highest number of runs in a Test innings by a woman. In 2004, she scored an impressive 242 runs against West Indies.

Shafali’s remarkable score of 205 ranks as the seventh-highest in the history of women’s Tests.
